Message from Board President, David R. Schumacher, CFRE

David R. Schumacher, CFRE is honored to lead such a wonderful group of local fundraising professionals as the AFP NWPA Chair for 2021. “We have such an incredible wealth of knowledge on this board and in this chapter. I consider us extremely lucky to have so many great people that are willing to help mentor and share their experience with other members.”
David’s vision for 2021 is to be the absolute best resource in Northwestern PA for anyone in the fundraising field. Our 2021 Board of Directors has over 100 years of combined fundraising experience and are willing to use their personal journey to help others. Some resources of our chapter that you may not know about include our mentorship program, our wealth of CFRE’s currently in our chapter, our annual Chamberlain Scholarship for one member to attend the annual AFP ICON event and a wonderful monthly educational offering that brings in local and regional experts in the field to discuss major topics of fundraising.

  • Gary Bukowski, CFRE featured in "Giving Tomorrow" Magazine

We're thrilled to read Gary's tribute and learn of his passion for the fundraising profession in the current "Giving Tomorrow" publication. This article speaks volumes to how so many of us have come down different paths only to end up in the same line of work aiming to make life better for our  communities. Congratulations! - Kelly Stolar, CFRE and AFP NWPA Chapter President

  • Honoring Judy Lawrence

AFPNWPA has lost a great leader, mentor, and friend. Long-time AFP member, Judy Lawrence passed away on August 6th and we are all a bit shell-shocked. If you were fortunate enough to know Judy, you were lucky enough to be her friend. Her smile and generous doling out of compliments, made an impact.

She was good at what she did, but shared credit and recognized others for their contributions.  She had integrity and an ethical compass that shaped her professional career and everything she did. One of the hundreds of people she mentored said she goes by the fundraising edict of “What would Judy do?” while trying to make tough decisions. If you ever had the opportunity to work through issues with Judy, you can be sure you would receive a thoughtful answer from Judy, laced with questions you had not considered, and ultimately the answers to these questions would lead you to the answer on your own. She was that good.

Judy was named 2005’s AFP Outstanding Fundraising Professional with decades of fundraising experience at the United Way, several colleges, and in recent years, as a consultant for major campaigns. She was instrumental in helping to write the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising and Capital Campaign Coaching courses offered at Penn State Behrend.  She most recently served as the National Philanthropy Day Selection Committee Chairperson.
