Celebrating Philanthropy: Honoring Extraordinary Contributions on National Philanthropy Day

ERIE, PA — The Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP NWPA) is honored to announce this year’s National Philanthropy Day honorees. On Wednesday, November 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gannon University’s Yehl Ballroom, we’ll celebrate individuals and organizations that have made an exceptional impact on our community through philanthropy, volunteerism, and leadership.

National Philanthropy Day is a time to recognize the transformative power of philanthropy and the profound effect it has on communities across Northwestern Pennsylvania. This year, we are proud to acknowledge the following 2024 honorees for their unwavering commitment to giving and community betterment:

2024 National Philanthropy Day Honorees

  • Outstanding Philanthropic Organizations

    • B&L Wholesale Supply
      Nominated by Sarah A. Reed Children's Center
      For nearly three decades, B&L Wholesale Supply’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament has raised over $896,000 for the Sarah A. Reed Children's Center, offering vital support to children and families across the region.

    • MaxPro Technologies Inc. (Paul T. Bowser, posthumously)
      Nominated by Inner-City Neighborhood Art House
      Under Paul Bowser’s leadership, MaxPro contributed over $284,000 to arts education, supporting opportunities for inner-city youth at the Art House and creating life-changing educational experiences.

  • Outstanding Philanthropist

    • Abby Lechner
      Nominated by Cathedral Preparatory School
      As a Cathedral Prep board member and Legacy Gala committee member, Abby has helped raise over $200,000 for tuition assistance. Her extensive community involvement and dedication are a testament to her passion for supporting local organizations.
  • Outstanding Young Philanthropists

    • Alaina Adams and Ella Paterson
      Nominated by Family Services of NW PA
      These young philanthropists have raised thousands through annual lemonade stands for causes such as the Erie Zoo, Linked by Pink, and SafeNet, setting an inspiring example of generosity for their peers.
  • Judy Ann Lawrence Outstanding Fundraising Professional

    • Ted Wood
      Nominated by The Nonprofit Partnership
      With a career dedicated to fundraising, Ted has raised millions for local nonprofits and mentored numerous professionals, strengthening the fundraising expertise of organizations across Erie.
  • Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser

    • Carol Jacobson
      Nominated by Erie City Mission
      Carol’s work with Emma’s Footprints and the Erie City Mission includes initiatives like Designer Bag Bingo, which have raised essential funds to aid families in need and support individuals facing hunger, homelessness, and addiction.
  • Outstanding Foundation

    • Catholic Foundation of Northwest Pennsylvania
      Nominated by the Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Erie
      The Foundation has been instrumental in advancing Catholic education and ministry, supporting tuition assistance, instructional resources, and leadership programs that ensure educational excellence in the region.

Tickets are $40.00 per person for AFP Members and $45.00 for non-members.
