2019 Officers
Kate Albert-Ward
, Hilltop Artists — President
“I joined AFP South Sound almost five years ago because I was new to fundraising. I have stayed involved because I really value the programming, networking, and leadership opportunities that our chapter makes possible.”
James Plourde
, CFRE, Campbell and Company — Immediate Past President
James joined the board of AFP because of his interest in forming a stronger sense of community among everyone engaged in the fundraising profession. “What we do is very meaningful, but it also is hard work. I’ve found fundraisers to be very generous in sharing information about what has and hasn’t worked for them. We can all benefit from having people around us with whom we can consult, receive support and form friendships.”
Jennifer Wolbrecht
, Pierce College — President Elect/Membership Chair
Jennifer has been involved in nonprofit development work in the Tacoma/Pierce County area since 2003, and credits AFP with helping her gain much of her fundraising education and community partnership work. “AFP has been both a staple and a lifeline for me in development work. When I joined AFP as a newly minted development staffer to now with several years under my belt, AFP has and continues to provide quality education, fellowship and a source of expertise in the field that is invaluable. I am happy to give back a fraction of what I’ve received from AFP by serving on the AFP South Sound board.”
Erik Hanberg
, Side x Side Creative — Treasurer
Erik Hanberg has spent more than 15 years working with nonprofits. In addition to serving as the director of two nonprofits, he has worked for nonprofits in marketing and fundraising, and served on boards and committees for more than a dozen organizations, often in leadership roles. He is the author of three books for nonprofits, focusing on fundraising, social media, and board governance. With his wife, he runs Side x Side Creative, a marketing and design agency that specializes in nonprofits. He was elected as a Metro Parks Tacoma Commissioner in 2011, a junior municipality with an annual operating budget of $40+ million.
Al Hove
, JD, Principal Counsel & CEO, PHOENIX RISEN Consulting — Secretary
"Over the past 30 years I have been fortunate to serve many nonprofits, in either a staff or consulting capacity. When asked to serve as an officer on the AFPSS board, I saw it as a terrific opportunity to ‘give back’ during a time of transition and great challenge for our profession. Our work includes the need to strengthen the skills and build the pipeline of the next generation of development professionals; and, AFPSS is at the forefront of these efforts."
