Organization Overview

The RCMP Heritage Centre represents a rich space for historical preservation, exploration of alternate perspectives, and the pursuit of reconciliation. It has become a major destination centre that celebrates the traditions and history of the RCMP. More recently, the RCMP Heritage Centre is embarking on an exciting new chapter of its own story by undergoing the process to become established as a national museum in Canada, embracing a new vision with social impact.

Position Overview

Reporting to the CEO, and directed by the CEO and Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Fund Development Associate is responsible for developing, leading, and implementing comprehensive fund development strategies supporting the RCMP Heritage Centre’s key strategic priorities and growing operational demands. This fund development role is a unique opportunity with a profound responsibility to make a valued contribution to the overall success of the RCMP Heritage Centre.

Fund development is an ongoing, strategic cycle that includes preparation, planning, execution, measurement and renewal of fundraising, grants, major gifts and endowments, sponsorships and donations. The Fund Development Associate will foster and grow relationships, work collaboratively with other RCMP Heritage Centre teams to develop promotional/request materials, and lead stewardship best-practice across the organization.

In this role you will ensure sustainability and growth for the organization through strategic positioning, strong relationships and a passion for connections to benefit the community through the museum experience. A persuasive and adaptable collaborator, the Fund Development Associate will be responsible for expanding current fund development efforts and further establishing the RCMP Heritage Centre as an innovative and relevant Canadian organization, celebrating the rich cultural history of Canada.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Working closely with the CEO, you will be responsible for understanding the organization’s strategic priorities and initiatives to develop and direct the fundraising development strategy.
  • Based on the fundraising development strategy, and working with the Marketing & Communications team, you will develop major gift/donation/sponsorship request packages or necessary materials for information and solicitation purposes.
  • Work closely with the Friends of the Mounted Police Heritage Centre (a major donor partner) in sharing annual plans and information, identifying areas of need and collaborating on donor campaigns and programs, as needed.
  • Research public and private grant agencies, foundations, corporations and individuals to identify potential sources of grant, sponsorship and major gift or donation funding.
  • Develop, maintain and actively build prospecting and current/recurrent donor/sponsor databases to be consistently managed and updated using fund development best-practice.
  • Manage grant funding by: managing an annual grant calendar, tracking grants, developing internal reporting systems, coordinating the submission of grant applications and reports, working with program staff to ensure each project/program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations.
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to develop consistent messaging; track and provide critical fund development analytics to be used in communications; ensure consistent brand voice and collaborative outreach across various channels.
  • Work closely with the Programming team to understand program content, identify opportunities for funding, identify strategic alignment or relevant funding sources as they align with programs and services.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with donors and supporters; allocating appropriate effort and time to ongoing and consistent relationship management.
  • Ensure donor/sponsor recognition and stewardship are effectively managed and appropriately tracked within the organization; including but not limited to coordinating and leading donor recognition events and sponsored events as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate all fund development activities to ensure goals are achieved and growth can be benchmarked and built upon.
  • The position requires a candidate who is able to consistently represent the museum positively and effectively both onsite and, in the community, and will build solid relationships with community leaders on behalf of the RMCP Heritage Centre.
  • You will be required, at times, to be present for or attend special events, galas, fundraisers or networking events on behalf of the RCMP Heritage Centre.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a fund development, philanthropic fundraising and/or grant writing role. Consideration will be given to those with a background in commerce/business, marketing, communications or public relations, with demonstrated experience in fund development.
  • Must have previous experience in the non-profit or cultural sector.
  • Bilingual fluency (English/French) will be considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with development programs including grant development and reporting, major gifts, planned and/or annual giving, corporate sponsorships and special event sponsorships.
  • Experience and comfort using a donor database, embracing a data-driven approach to tracking and reporting.
  • Sound data management and segmentation skills. Experience with CRM software or Raiser’s Edge or relevant software and donor database applications will be considered a strong asset.
  • Experience developing and executing major gift strategies; including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Experience with board reporting will be considered an asset.
  • CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) designation or membership in good standing with CAGP (Canadian Association of Gift Planners) or AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals/AFP South Sask) will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional team skills and a commitment to maintaining a positive, collaborative respectful work environment are essential qualifications.
  • High regard for accuracy and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a varied and dynamic workload.
