Professional Development Scholarship Fund

AFP BERKS REGIONAL CHAPTER
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

In November 2006, the AFP Berks Regional Chapter Board of Directors approved the creation of a Chapter Professional Development Scholarship fund. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to Development Professionals in the Berks Regional Chapter service area to attend AFP educational programs and conference on a local, regional or national level and to support local fundraising professionals in becoming members.

AFP Berks Regional Chapter Professional Development Scholarship Fund

1. Purpose:  The purpose of this fund shall be to provide financial support to Development Professionals in the Berks Regional Chapter service area to attend AFP educational programs and conferences on a local, regional or national level. Funding may also be provided to assist individuals who are interested in becoming members of the Chapter but lack the funds (personal or organizational) for AFP Membership Dues.

2. Amount of Fund:  This scholarship fund is established and funded by the members of the AFP Berks Regional Chapter and Board of Directors with a gift in the amount of $100.00. Awards from this fund will be based on the cost of the program, available funding and at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee of the AFP Berks Regional Chapter. No award shall be made for more than 50% of the balance of the fund.

Scholarships for membership will be in the amount of 50% of the total AFP Membership Dues (not Chapter dues) for the new member’s first two years of membership. Scholarship is limited to the following membership categories: Professional; Young Professional; Associate; and Small Organization.

3. Criteria:  Potential scholarship recipients shall submit an application for funding to the AFP Berks Regional Chapter Scholarship Committee. Applications may have a deadline placed on them based on the program for which funding is sought. A review of all applications will be completed by the Scholarship Committee and selected recipients approved by the Board of Directors.

Awards can be made for local programs to non-AFP members to encourage membership. Funding is limited to two programs per person. First program would be covered in full; second program would cover 50% of cost.

Awards to regional and national events shall be made to AFP members only. International conference recipients shall be local AFP members who have not attended an International Conference in the past.

Awards can be made to AFP Regional Chapter Board of Director members to attend national meetings for leadership development.

Membership Scholarship awardees must serve on a committee (Membership; Programs; National Philanthropy Day; Marketing and Communication; Be the Cause) for both years in which scholarship funds are received.

Applicants for the scholarship must submit a letter of interest to the Berks Regional Chapter’s Board in which they state: current professional affiliation and contact information; how the scholarship and AFP membership will maximize their ability to develop professionally; and statement regarding financial limitations and need.

All applications will be reviewed by the Berks Regional Chapter’s Board of Directors and voted on for approval. The number of scholarships awarded at any given time will be limited by available Chapter funds and at the discretion of the Chapter Board.
