2027 Board of Directors

Now Open: Nominations for the 2027 AFP Nova Scotia Chapter Board of Directors

The AFP Nova Scotia Chapter is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for our 2027 Board of Directors.

As part of our ongoing commitment to IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility), we are expanding our nomination process to encourage both self-nominations and nominations of peers. Representation matters, and we are actively seeking to increase diversity on our Board—particularly from individuals who identify with under-represented communities.

We strongly encourage nominations from individuals who:

·  Identify as Mi’kmaq, African Canadian, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, new Canadians, persons with disabilities, or neurodiverse individuals

·  Live and/or work in rural Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Cape Breton

·  Are based in Prince Edward Island

This year, we are especially interested in candidates who:

·  Are passionate about serving as a Cape Breton Liaison

·  Enjoy organizing educational opportunities

·  Have an interest in supporting scholarships, sponsorships, or the Maritime Fundraising Conference

·  Are committed to advancing AFP’s IDEA initiatives

Eligibility considerations include:

·  Demonstrated service to AFP, philanthropy, or the community

·  Leadership experience relevant to governing a professional association

·  At least one year of experience in fundraising or a related field

·  Current AFP membership (or willingness to join by the end of 2026)

Deadline: June 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM

Selected candidates will begin their term on January 1, 2027 and will receive mentorship and onboarding support.

If you’re ready to contribute your voice—or know someone who would be an excellent addition—we encourage you to submit a nomination.

A Message From Our Chapter Leadership

Last Spring, I raised my hand to volunteer with AFP Nova Scotia Chapter and as I reached out to some of our members in an effort to engage with them, I was reminded why I enjoy so much being a member of AFP.

Being a member of AFP Nova Scotia connects you to a vibrant professional community of fundraisers across the province, the Maritimes, and beyond. This summer, I even had the pleasure of calling a member in PEI! Membership provides valuable networking opportunities, allowing you to share ideas, collaborate, and build relationships with peers who understand the unique challenges and opportunities of fundraising in a Maritime province with local challenges and opportunities we face daily.

Our AFP professional community can also be a powerful resource for learning and growth. Membership also offers access to a wide range of educational and professional development opportunities. You can have access to workshops, webinars, and training sessions. As members we can sharpen our skills, stay current on fundraising best practices, and learn innovative strategies to strengthen our organizations. To find out more about the benefits of AFP membership you can visit the AFP Global Website

As important as it is to access research reports, ethical guidelines, and job postings, being part of AFP also demonstrates a commitment to high ethical standards and professionalism in fundraising. As members we can benefit from increased credibility with donors, boards, and partners, while also gaining practical tools and support to achieve greater success.

Remember to take advantage of our AFP Coupon. I invite you to join me as an AFP Nova Scotia. And if you have any questions about the benefits of coming together to enhance our expertise, expand our networks, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and success of our profession, please feel free to email me.
