The Western Massachusetts Chapter serves fundraising professionals throughout Western Massachusetts including Worcester, Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties. Professionals from outside of our region are also welcome to join and attend meetings.

  • Case Study: Is Phonathon Dead or a Viable Part of Your Development Plan?

    Phonathons are still an important way for many organizations to raise funds, though they may no longer be the major part of an organization’s development plan that they were in the past.   Join our speaker Maria Held, Director of the Smith Fund at Smith College, as she talks about how phonathon has evolved at Smith College during her 17-year tenure, and how it continues to be a viable component of Smith’s fundraising plan, raising $500,000 from 20% of the donors that make up their $12.5 million-dollar annual-fund income stream.  Maria will share Smith’s recent journey with phonathon, its benefits, how it can be used for acquisitions, and to engage both students and lower-level donors in philanthropy.   She will also share ideas and best practices that both small and large shops can use when dialing for dollars.
        Target Audience: All levels
    Maria Held is the Director of The Smith Fund at Smith College, where she oversees the college's annual giving programs. Her 17-year career in annual giving includes work on print and digital appeals, phonathon, a robust class agent and reunion giving program, and student and young alumnae fundraising. She is an active member of STAFF (Sharing the Annual Fund Fundamentals) and holds a Bachelor in Finance and an MBA from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
