Senior Development Officer, British Columbia

Join our team at the Wilder Institute and Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo and help donors connect with national wildlife conservation! We are seeking a permanent, full-time Senior Development Officer, British Columbia who will bring their senior fundraising experience to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects in support of the Wilder Institute's purpose, vision, and core values within the province.

Based in the Metro Vancouver Regional District, Greater Victoria, or Okanagan Valley, the Senior Development Officer serves as a key ambassador for the Wilder Institute. Working as part of the national Development team, the incumbent develops, cultivates, solicits, and stewards relationships with individual donors, corporations and foundations who serve the British Columbia region, and community stakeholders through a donor-centric and relationship-driven approach to fundraising.

The Senior Developmnent Officer, Ontario is accountable for achieving ambitious fundraising goals, including securing major gifts and expanding the organization’s network of supporters throughout the province. This role requires a highly motivated and results-oriented professional with a demonstrated ability to engage donors through all stages of the donor cycle. Working remotely, the SDO must collaborate effectively with colleagues, volunteers, board members, and senior leadership across Canada to maximize philanthropic opportunities and advance the Wilder Institute's conservation impact. Regular travel throughout Ontario and occasional travel to Calgary and other locations across Canada is required.

Senior Development Officer

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an ambitious Senior Development Officer for a full-time, fixed-term employment contract of
approximately 20 months, commencing November 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Development Officer plays a key leadership role in
the execution of the organization's annual fundraising strategy and donor engagement initiatives. Working
collaboratively across the Development team, this position leads the annual fund program, manages a
portfolio of leadership annual donors, oversees donor stewardship, and provides operational leadership to
ensure fundraising activities are delivered effectively and efficiently.
The Senior Development Officer combines strategic thinking with strong project management and
relationship-building skills to strengthen donor retention, increase philanthropic support, and foster an
exceptional donor experience.

As a charitable partner of Island Health, we raise funds to invest in priority and best-in-class medical equipment, caregiver education, research, and special projects. 

In 2025/26, more than $37.5 million was raised from over 5,314 donors to bring innovation to the forefront of patient care in Victoria. Since 1989, the Foundation has raised over $270 million to benefit Vancouver Island’s acute care hospitals, which serve the region’s 930,000+ residents.

We are seeking an experienced fundraiser and relationship-builder to join our highperforming philanthropy team. Reporting to the Manager, Philanthropy, you will manage a portfolio of donors and prospects capable of making gifts of $20,000+, building meaningful relationships that inspire significant investment in healthcare priorities. Working closely with physicians, clinical leaders, volunteers, donors, corporations, and foundations, you will play an important role in advancing healthcare across Vancouver Island.

About the Opportunity 
Having just celebrated 25 years, SPCF is entering an exciting new chapter. We are hiring our first Executive Director to help guide the Foundation’s next phase of growth. Working closely with the Board, the Executive Director will play a key role in building our leadership and operational capacity— implementing a new technology platform, establishing a physical office and strengthening relationships with donors, grant recipients, and community partners. About the Role 
This is a part-time, 28 hours per week (80% position of a full time 35 hours per week). Working virtually, local travel will be required to attend meetings and community events, as well as occasional travel to regional, provincial or national meetings.
