Barbara Auten is the Executive Director of Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area. She previously served the organization as an Event Coordinator and Development Director after relocating to Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina. During her 11 years at Alzheimer’s Services she assisted in the development of Charlie’s Place Respite and Activity Center that was named the 2008 National Adult Day Service Center. She is a Certified Fundraising Executive and a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy. She was named a Baton Rouge Business Report Influential Woman in Business in 2012 and received the Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s John W. Barton Excellence in Nonprofit Management Award in 2013. The Louisiana Association of Nonprofits recognized her in 2016 with the Force for Good award.

Before moving to Baton Rouge, Mrs. Auten helped establish the Fund Development Department at Christ the King Parish School, and later assumed the role of Development Director. She published the yearbook and the first interactive digital yearbook for the school. She was a member of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Technology Committee and helped develop both the WAN and LAN Networks that expanded to several dioceses across Louisiana. She currently sits on several advisory committees related to health services and nonprofits.

She has over 26 years of experience in nonprofit employment and has served on a variety of nonprofit boards, committees and volunteers with several organizations, including Girl and Boy Scouts, The Audubon Nature Institute’s Zoo, Aquarium, and Nature Center, LA Wildlife and Fisheries and more.

She is married to her husband Bill, a retired pilot. They enjoy travelling and their favorite trip was to Tanzania and the Serengeti. They have two adult children, Matthew an M.D., Ph.D. finishing his residency in pathology and a daughter Maureen who works for Ochsner Health Systems. She loves to sew to relax and scrapbook.
