Nonprofit board of directors come in all shapes and sizes.  Some work very effectively and efficiently while others struggle with their role on how to best support the work of the charity and advance its mission.  Building a Board that Works will take a macro look at board models trending across the nation and then drill down into the specifics that make the difference  – – differentiating the qualities of a strong board.  President of M. Gale & Associates, Missy Gale, CFRE will present this course.

We’ll discuss:

  • Current board models – size, structure, committees, roles
  • Board relationship to the CEO/Executive Director and management staff
  • Processes for recruiting board members
  • Onboarding and orientation
  • Measuring board effectiveness

Attendees will receive templates and worksheets for use in their organizations including models, recruitment timelines and matrixes, orientation overviews and measurement tools.

Objectives:

From attending this presentation, attendees will be able to :

  • Articulate 3 different board models including size and structure
  • Articulate effective relationships between staff and board members
  • Develop a recruitment timeline and skills matrix for leadership prospecting
  • Write onboarding and orientation procedures
  • Develop measurements for board effectiveness

If you attended Missy’s workshop at the 2018 DFW AFP Philanthropy Conference of the same name, this course is an expanded version of what was presented at the conference with more emphasis on implementation.
