Marc Pitman, Moderator
Marc A. Pitman helps leaders, especially in nonprofits, lead their teams with more effectiveness and less stress. The author of "Ask Without Fear!®," he is the founder of The Concord Leadership Group and FundraisingCoach.com. He's also the executive director of TheNonprofitAcademy.com and an Advisory Panel member of Rogare, a prestigious international fundraising think tank.
Called "The Johnny Appleseed of Fundraising," Marc's expertise and enthusiasm engages audiences around the world and has caught the attention of media organizations as diverse as Al Jazeera, SUCCESS Magazine, and Fox News. Marcs experience also includes pastoring a Vineyard church, managing a gubernatorial campaign, and teaching internet marketing and fundraising at colleges and universities. Adela Mendoza
Adela is an international professional skilled at building strategic collaborative partnerships, facilitating cross-cultural relationships, and leading diverse teams and coalitions. As the Executive Director of the Hispanic Alliance, Adela is helping build collective capacity to embrace the emerging Hispanic population as a thriving, productive, and positive contributor to the community at large.
Adela is a native of Veracruz, Mexico, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Journalism from Universidad del Valle and worked for a leading radio station directing media relations, planning and managing large-scale event logistics attended annually by over 12,000 people, and coordinating communications with international recording companies.
Before joining the Alliance, Adela worked for SE Consulting, Inc., and was Statewide Program Manager for the South Carolina Immigrant Victim Network, where she helped establish international cooperative relations among foreign consulates and US organizations.
In 2013, Adela was selected as an Aspen Ideas Festival Scholar among 60 leaders from around the world chosen for their accomplishments and their ability to transform ideas into action. She continues to engage with and take inspiration from the Institute in the development of the Student DREAMers Alliance leadership program. Adela is a Liberty Fellow and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She is also a graduate of Leadership Greenville and Furman University's Riley Institute Diversity Leaders Institute, which honored her in 2018 with their "Outstanding Contribution to International Diversity Award."
Adela is a founding member of Upstate International and serves on the boards of Community Foundation of Greenville, United Way Community Investment Cabinet, Goodwill Industries of the Upstate/Midlands, the International Center of the Upstate, and the advisory boards of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce and MedEx Academy.
Adela's dream for South Carolina is that we, collectively, will build an ecosystem of opportunity where every person has access to the conditions and resources to thrive.
Ivy Gibson-Hill
Ivy Gibson-Hill is a co-founder and the Executive Director of Gender Benders and serves as the Community Health Programs Director with Campaign for Southern Equality. Ivy lives in a small town outside of Greenville, SC where the were born and raised and now resides with their wife Misha. Ivy has published pieces about LGBTQ equity and trans health in The Advocate, Scalawag Magazine, and QNotes, and has done interviews with local, regional, and national news outlets.
Ivy developed a trans sensitivity training program that was approved by the US Department of Justice under the Obama Administration, and has delivered this training to colleges, universities, hospitals, non-profit organizations, and businesses across the Carolina's. In Ivy's role with Campaign for Southern Equality they organize direct service pop-up clinics across the Southeast delivering free services like assistance with legal name changes, HIV/AIDS testing, self defense training, immigration law, and more to LGBTQ southerners. Ivy also maintains Trans in the South: A Guide to Resources and Services, and works to distribute that resource and make trans health care more accessible through their work with CSE.
Ivy was honored to present at TEDxGreenville in 2015, and to receive the Ryan Wilson Equality Award from South Carolina Pride. Ivy has work around issues of LGBTQ equity ranging from advocating for hate crime legislation to serving on the SC Equality TransAction Committee, and beyond since 2004.
Herb Johnson
Herb Johnson was appointed Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer for Michelin North America January 1, 2014. He joined BFGoodrich Tires in 1977, holding a number of positions in research and development. In 1988 he transferred to the marketing department in the High Performance Tire and Motorsport division.
In 1990 Michelin purchased BFGoodrich, and in 1995 he relocated to Greenville, SC, Michelin’s North American headquarters. From 1996 to 2002 he was the North American director of Motorsport for the Michelin and BFGoodrich brands. In 2002 he took an assignment in Sales responsible for the independent dealer network. Prior to his current assignment he worked as director of Community Relations for 7 years.
He currently serves on the United Ministries and the Greenville Free Medical Clinic boards, and is an advisory member to A Child’s Haven and the United Way’s African American Leadership Council. His past board affiliations include the ETV Endowment, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Greenville County, the Center for Developmental Services, Public Education Partners, the Children’s Museum of the Upstate, and SC Future Minds. He also served as board chair of A Child’s Haven.
He is a proud Ohio State University Buckeye, and is married to the former Cheryl R. Jones, a retired Greenville County Schools Administrator. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
