Since 1987 the Association of Fundraising Professionals has hosted its annual National Philanthropy Day Awards honoring the individuals, organizations, and companies who have made a positive impact on New Mexico's philanthropic community that year. In the last 30 years, AFP's President and Board have elected to bestow a special honor - the President's Award - to just three other individuals and organizations. The President's Award has been presented to those whose philanthropic impact on our community was significant now and for the future.
New Mexico's philanthropic community was deeply affected this year by the loss of Jennifer Riordan. Jennifer was not only a valued partner in our community and in the philanthropic work of many of AFP's members, but for the last 10 years she was an active and visible participant in National Philanthropy Day, often speaking from the podium at the event. The AFP Board of Directors voted unanimously to present Jennifer with our President's Award (posthumously).
We thank Michael and Jennifer's family and friends for the opportunity to recognize Jennifer's impact on New Mexico's philanthropic efforts, and proudly make a donation to The Jennifer Riordan Sparkle Fund in her memory.
The mission of The Jennifer Riordan Sparkle Fund is to continue Jennifer's philanthropic enthusiasm to support organizations who shared her core values to always be kind, loving, caring, and sharing. Jennifer was a pillar of philanthropy in our community, and The Jennifer Riordan Sparkle Fund will continue her legacy to support the causes she cared about so deeply, forever. 100% of the funds received to date were granted to nonprofit organizations earlier this year.
