National Philanthropy Day

National Philanthropy Day is Going Digital

AFP DC will celebrate this year’s National Philanthropy Day digitally. While the format may be new, the tradition of celebrating the ability of philanthropy to change the world with a giving heart remains unchanged.

This year we are tapping the remarkable power of professional video to tell and share the inspiring stories of generosity and dedication that make up the pillars of philanthropy in our area.

To be revealed in mid-November, the video will preserve the spirit of NPD by showcasing recipients of the following awards.

Philanthropist of the Year
Sponsored by:

Fundraiser of the Year

Rising Star Fundraiser of the Year

Please check back to this webpage frequently for updates about the video’s drop date.

2020 NPD Sponsorship Opportunities
The AFP DC Chapter is offering sponsorship opportunities tied to the three awards. Award sponsors – limited to one sponsor per award – will also be prominently featured in the video and in promotional snippet leading to the video reveal in mid-November. Click here to view this year’s NPD sponsorship brochure. Outstanding Fundraising Professionals:
Mary's Center

Mary’s Center was founded thirty years ago to provide bilingual health services to pregnant women and their infants. We have grown from a basement clinic in Adams Morgan to an award-winning community-based health center with seven locations in the District of Columbia and Maryland, now serving more than 50,000 families per year. Using a holistic social change model, we provide comprehensive health, dental, mental health, education, job training and social services. Our participants are adults and children; for many families, we are their safety net and their partner in achieving a brighter future.

Nearly one-third of the participants Mary’s Center serves are uninsured and nearly two-thirds have Medicaid or another form of public insurance. In 2018, Mary's Center provided more than $8 million in free care to our uninsured participants. As the need for our services continues to grow, Mary’s Center stays true to our mission of providing quality care to everyone who walks through our doors, regardless of their ability to pay.

Mary’s Center is honored to have been chosen to receive the 2019 AFP DC Outstanding Fundraising Professionals Award. Our team is comprised of the following talent:
Maria Gomez, RN, MPH, President & CEO
Antonio Caro, Development Associate
Michelle Maxberry, Manager, Corporate Partnerships & Events
Sarah McIntosh, Assistant Director, Foundation Relations
Heather Morgan, CFRE, Chief Development Officer
Maria-Lynn Okanlawon, Development Assistant
