Amy Fogerson and Brian Palmer will share the unique story of Street Symphony and the Urban Voices Project – a story of how professional musicians engage members of the homeless community in life-changing, collaborative musical experiences. As fundraisers, we often categorize nonprofits into groups: health care, education, social service, fine arts, and so on. The Street Symphony connects fine arts with human services in a profound and beautiful way. We have asked Amy to describe the philanthropic stages along the path of these programs’ origin and growth, and for Brian to share how his life has changed through participation as a Vocal Fellow.
Street Symphony was written up in THE NEW YORKER magazine last January, but it’s happening right here in LA. We look forward to learning about this unique program that takes place just blocks from where we are having this lunch.
At the December meeting, we will also welcome the incoming board of directors of the chapter, as we say ‘thank you’ to the outgoing officers and board. Enjoy networking with old and new AFP friends before the luncheon and program.
