Reflecting on an Eventful Start to 2024

Dear GLAC members,

As we stride through the first four months of 2024, it’s remarkable to see the energy and enthusiasm our community has brought to our educational and networking events. From insightful gatherings to inspiring conferences, we’ve been on an educational journey together.

Member Mixer: Coffee Hour

Our first Member Mixer of the year, our Coffee Hour, was a delightful gathering where members got to connect, share ideas, and build relationships. It’s always heartening to see the vibrant exchange of knowledge and experiences among our members.

AFP Global ICON Conference

This year's AFP Global ICON Conference was a highlight for fundraisers worldwide. Held earlier this month, it brought together professionals from diverse backgrounds to learn, collaborate, and inspire one another. We’re thrilled that a strong contingent of LA Chapter members attended, returning reenergized, inspired, and armed with valuable insights to drive positive change in their organizations.

However, we understand that this year’s ICON coincided with Ramadan, which posed challenges for many of our members. We acknowledge and share in your frustrations. Our commitment to inclusivity is unwavering, and we’re dedicated to ensuring that not only our chapter events are accessible and considerate of all our members’ needs but will also be your advocates for global events.

In this spirit, we’re pleased to learn that next year’s ICON will not fall during Ramadan which better aligns with our values of inclusivity and respect for diverse cultures and traditions.

Your Concerns Matter

Your feedback is invaluable to us. If you have any concerns or suggestions regarding our chapter or global programming, we’re here to listen and partner with you to address them. Together, we can ensure that our organization truly embodies the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA).

As we look ahead, we’re excited about the upcoming events and opportunities to learn, grow, and connect as a community. Stay tuned for more updates and mark your calendars for our upcoming events!

In partnership with the AFP API Affinity Group, of which Jordan Kough is a member, this is a special Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month virtual program.

Coming from the perspective of an Asian American who has been an Executive Director, Development Director, Board Member, and Program Staff, this webinar comes with a 360 perspective on how to navigate perceived and real power dynamics that often surface in the nonprofit sector to most efficiently use your time and limited resources. It is focused on expanding your approach to Give / Get and monthly activities to motivate your Board without overwhelming your staff.

Brought to you by our friends at the Santa Barbara/Ventura Chapter, this symposium takes a deep look at the current landscape of IDEA in the nonprofit sector, with case studies that highlight both challenges and successes.

Attendees will take away actionable strategies for attracting diverse young talent, as well as tools and resources to support the professional growth and development of emerging leaders within their organizations.
