Open the Door Campaign. Lessons Learned from the Trenches

Everything went right as planned until it all went wrong and better! Join our keynote speaker as he shares his “war stories” of fundraising in the trenches for Caron Treatment Centers. Appreciate how your role as leader, follower, coach and listener can create the breakthrough needed to keep your campaign on the path to success.

Pat Feeley has been fundraising in the non-profit sector since 1993.  He is currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Caron Treatment Centers where he oversees the Open the Door Campaign.  Prior to Caron, Pat worked in develop roles with The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, La Salle University and Junior Achievement.  Pat earned a BA in History from Millersville University and an MBA from La Salle University.  He is Immediate past Chairperson for the Association of Fundraising Professional (AFP) International and resides in Philadelphia, PA.

Topic: Acknowledging and Addressing Sexual Harassment in 2018 
In recent months, sexual harassment allegations, including numerous hashtags such as #timesup, #metoo and other terms, have emerged to dramatically shine light on sexual harassment in the workplace and in our country. Understanding, addressing and implementing standards of behavior in the broad parameters of today's workplace is a timely topic worth exploring. This session will review federal, state and local law and discuss considerations companies are making to improve their policies and procedures, not only to safely and appropriately response to allegations of sexual harassment, but also to create an environment of openness, inclusion and appropriate behavior. Presenter: Kelly Carithers, J.D.

Topic: Building Your Board/Board Development 
Learn valuable lessons for building a healthy and vibrant board. Panelists will discuss area such as on-boarding, succession planning, recruiting a diverse slate of board members and creating a collaborative relationship between board and staff. Presenters: Steve Blair, Randall Hurban and Sarah White

Topic: Diversity, Equality and Inclusion 

Encouraging diversity, equity and inclusion in Benton and Washington counties is the focus of a new community-based three-year initiative called TRUE Northwest Arkansas (TRUE). Supported by the Walmart Foundation and Walton Family Foundation, the program will “foster an environment where all members of the Northwest Arkansas community can thrive and feel included, building on both foundations’ efforts to enhance quality of life in the region”. Erin Hogue will moderate a panel of local stakeholders around the role of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Philanthropy and share details around this three-year initiative.

Topic: Major Gifts and Behavioral Economic Theory - SESSION FULL
Warren Buffett once said "Be Fearful When Others are Greedy and Greedy When Others are Fearful." Understand how human's conscious and subconscious thoughts and feelings can negatively or positively impact major gifts. Become aware of how you can tap into behavioral economic theory to strengthen your fundraising program. Presenter: Patrick Feeler

From Data to Action: Donor Engagement, Loyalty and Experience 

We all want donors who are excited, engaged, and want to come back again. It’s about more than just retaining, but creating loyal donors who feel passionate about your cause and help share your story. Reviewing three different door studies we will look at what makes donors feel engaged, what makes them loyal and how you can create a better Donor experience (DX).

Rich Dietz began his nonprofit career when he was the director of a mentoring organization in college and went on to get a Master’s in Social Work (MSW). He has spent the last 20 plus years working in and with a wide variety of nonprofit, political and governments organizations as well as technology companies focused on the nonprofit sector. Rich holds a Masters in Social Welfare from the University of California- Berkeley as well as a B.A, in Political Science from UCLA.

Topic: Digging Deeper into Donor Behavior & Experience  
What to do with Data - Based on the data we explored in part one, we'll look at practical advice to help nonprofit organizations adjust their strategies accordingly to better nurture donors by giving them what they want, when they want it, and how they want it. This session will dig deeper into building a solid content strategy, using content to show impact, why the monthly newsletter is no longer matters, and why personalization is so important. Presenter: Rich Dietz

Topic: Generational Giving 
Technology and social media have transformed the way people give and connect with nonprofits. As a consequence, fundraising practices that worked a mere 5 years ago, may not provide the best return on investment today. This session examines the donor engagement preferences of Gen X, Y and Z to Baby Boomers and translates these preferences to best practices for fundraising. Presenter: Karen Kavanaugh

Topic: Fayetteville Public Library - Find It, Fund It
The Foundation Directory helps grant seekers find funding by showing the different ways to research grant makers, grants and grant recipients, 990 tax forms and other resources using the Foundation Directory Online Professional database. The database was redesigned in 2017 to offer more research options. Presenter: Kelly Haley

Topic: Collaboration/Team Building 
You nuda veritas, otherwise known as your naked truth, guides everything you do. It shapes your ambitions, informs your decisions, and most influentially guides your relationships. Every interaction, from colleagues to clients to significant others, is an opportunity to live out of your nuda veritas. This session will speak directly to how you can leverage and maximize your nuda veritas to form stronger philanthropic and collegial relationships.

Topic: Want to Open Doors & Close Gifts? - SESSION FULL
(Planned Giving Ideas that can Help You do Both) - This session will discuss practical ideas that can create impactful gifts. We will review basic gift planning vehicles; explore blended gift opportunities and wise gift opportunities available using appreciable assets, qualified retirement plans and donor advised funds. If we have something valuable to share with donors, we give them reason to list. Imagine what might happen if donors better understand beneficial ways to give? Presenter: David Hall

Topic: Donor Advised Funds 
The increased popularity of Donor Advised Funds has been described as a "Philanthropic Boom." But the charitable giving vehicle has it's critics as well. We will what a DAF is, why donors are choosing to use them, and the implications they have on your development shop. We will also discuss strategies for soliciting support from donors who use a DAF. Presenter: Jody Dilday

Topic: Yoga Story 
As nonprofit professionals being intentional with your self-care is crucial to fight burnout and foster abundance in your personal life. Learn tips to avoid burnout and keep your focus on your "why," practical ways to integrate mindfulness into everyday interactions and easy ways to practice yoga right at your desk. Presenter: Lynn Hancock

Topic: Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) 
This session will discuss the importance of the CFRE certification, and how it can benefit you and your organization. We will also answer any questions about the CFRE. Presenter: Allison McElroy

Sandy Edwards will interview long-time (30 years) friends, Dave and Jane Gearhart, about their life as a couple devoted to giving generously of their time, talent and resources.
