Ethical Fundraising Environments - A Workshop
Creating A Culture of Consent: Community Bystander Interventions

On January,30, 2018, AFP International released a statement about sexual harassment and gender equity: “...the charitable sector is not an outlier on this issue.  We are symptomatic of it. …given our role in society, we MUST serve as a model.  Our priorities are grounded in the principles contained in our internationally recognized Code of Ethical Standards. AFP’s goal is to build a culture of respect, equality and openness so harassment does not occur and if it does, people feel secure and confident in reporting. “We have to realize that these are not just women’s issues - these are issues that are fundamental to the principles of the charitable sector…”.

At this workshop, Katie O’Brien, from Calgary Sexual Health will explore and discuss the bystander effect and some common barriers to intervention. You will increase your knowledge and identify how media and society perpetuate harmful messages about consent, relationships, and sexual violence. You will learn practical tools to prepare you to recognize when and how you can be an ACTIVE bystander.

Katie is the Project Coordinator for #CalgaryGetsConsent with Calgary Sexual Health.
